RSP Leaders Visit President’s Office

Leaders of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), led by Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, paid a visit to the President’s Office to raise concerns about the controversial decision to grant immunity to Yograj (Regal) Dhakal, who had been previously charged with murder.

Nisha Dangi, the party’s whip, voiced their primary objective during the visit, emphasizing the troubling issue of exonerating an individual who had been serving a life sentence for a heinous murder committed in broad daylight.

The delegation, which included prominent figures like General Secretary Mukul Dhakal, stood firm in their commitment to bring this matter to the forefront of public discourse.

It is worth noting that President Ram Chandra Paudel had previously granted amnesty to Yograj Dhakal on Constitution Day, a decision that has sparked widespread debate and concern.

In response, the RSP has taken a decisive stance by announcing their intent to register a resolution aimed at putting an end to the practice of granting immunity to individuals serving sentences for serious crimes, such as murder.

Yograj Dhakal, popularly known as ‘Regal’ in Nepalgunj, had been serving a life sentence for his involvement in the murder of Chetan Manandhar. The controversy surrounding his pardon has been amplified, particularly given his affiliation with the Nepali Congress-affiliated Tarun Dal.
