Sandeep Lamichhane Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison for Rape

In a conclusive hearing today, the Kathmandu District Court sentenced cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane to eight years in prison following his conviction in a rape case. The court had previously declared Lamichhane guilty under Section 219 (2) of the National Penal Code Act, 2017, which pertains to engaging in sexual intercourse without the woman’s consent or with a girl child below eighteen years, even with her consent.

The government advocates presented their case on behalf of the alleged victim, leading to the sentencing decision. The court determined that Lamichhane, despite the victim not being a minor, would face a jail term ranging from seven to ten years based on the circumstances outlined in Section 219 (3) of the National Penal Code Act.

Lamichhane, a prominent figure in the cricketing world, now faces an eight-year prison term, marking a significant turn in his personal and professional life.
