SC Allows War Crime Writ Against PM Dahal, Ex-PM Bhattarai

The Supreme Court has overturned the administration’s previous decision and directed the registration of a writ related to war crimes allegedly involving Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai. The order was issued on Friday following a petition by former minor soldier Lenin Bista.

Lenin Bista, the petitioner, revealed that Justice Anand Mohan Bhattarai’s single bench ordered the Supreme Court administration to register the writ. This decision has opened the pathway for the filing of a writ regarding war crimes against the former rebel leader Prachanda and ex-Prime Minister Bhattarai.

Expressing his satisfaction with the court’s ruling, Bista stated, “Friday’s order has paved the way to register a writ regarding ‘war crime’ against the then rebel leader PM Dahal and former PM Bhattarai.” Bista further announced his intention to file a writ petition against Prime Minister Dahal and several other leaders on Sunday.

The writ petitioner has specifically called for the dismissal of Prime Minister Dahal from his position.
