Teknath Rizal Secures Bail, Set to be Released

Teknath Rizal, a leader among Bhutanese refugees, has successfully settled the bail amount of 1.5 million rupees before the Kathmandu District Court, marking a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the alleged Fake Bhutanese Refugee Scam.

On Sunday, Rizal appeared before the court and provided the required bail amount, gaining approval from the authorities for his release. The discharge papers issued by the court further solidify his imminent return to freedom. Sources from the Central Jail Office have confirmed that Rizal is expected to be released on Wednesday following the completion of necessary formalities.

The case, which involves the illicit activity of sending Nepali citizens to the United States under the guise of Bhutanese refugees, garnered attention from both the Department of Money Laundering Investigation and the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). These agencies had urged the Central Jail to clarify Rizal’s status, leading to the recent court proceedings.

Earlier, the Kathmandu District Court had ordered Rizal to appear for interrogation regarding his alleged involvement in the scam. However, the Patan High Court intervened, issuing a discharge order contingent upon the payment of a 1.5 million rupee bail.

Despite the court’s decision, Rizal will not be released immediately, as both Monday and Tuesday have been declared public holidays. His release is now scheduled for Wednesday, allowing for the completion of administrative processes.
