Tourism Boom Spurs Hotel Industry Growth in Baglung
The rise in the influx of tourists in Baglung has significantly boosted the local hospitality industry, with entrepreneurs like Tal Bahadur Kunwar leading the way in expanding their businesses. Kunwar, a resident of Kathekhola Rural Municipality-7, Resha, has been in the hotel business for the past 20 years after leaving his teaching profession.
Starting modestly with just four rooms in a small house, Kunwar’s hotel has now grown into a prominent establishment in Baglung, often referred to as a “VIP” hotel. His investment in the hotel has soared to Rs 20 million, and the facility now boasts 24 well-equipped rooms.
The increase in domestic and international tourists has encouraged other local entrepreneurs to venture into the hotel industry. A new hotel with 30 rooms is nearing completion in Baglung Bazaar, which investors believe will become the most convenient hotel in the area.
Kunwar observed a growing need for star-rated hotels in the district as tourist numbers gradually increased. His efforts are mirrored by other entrepreneurs like Arjun Chokhal, who has been involved in the hotel business in Baglung since 2065 BS and has invested Rs 40 million to date.
Baglung’s appeal to tourists is fueled by attractions such as Kalika Temple, the world’s second-longest suspension bridge, Banji Bridge, Panchakot, and the Shalgram Museum, all of which have drawn large numbers of domestic visitors. As the tourism sector continues to thrive, the local hotel industry is poised for further growth, benefiting both entrepreneurs and the district’s economy.
