Tragic Incident in Kohalpur as Jeep Fatally Strikes Policeman on Duty

BANKE, Dec 15 – In a heartbreaking incident, a police officer lost his life, and another was critically injured when a jeep struck them last night in Kohalpur, Banke.

The tragic incident unfolded as a jeep bearing license plate Bhe 1 Cha 3407, traveling from west to east, collided with 29-year-old policeman Bishal Oli, who was on duty at the time. The impact proved fatal for Oli, who succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

Assistant Head Constable of Nepal Police, Lal Bahadur Budhachhetri, aged 32, also suffered severe injuries in the accident. Following initial treatment at Kohalpur Medical College, Budhachhetri was airlifted to Kathmandu for further medical attention, as confirmed by Narayan Dangi, the spokesperson for the District Police Office in Banke.

Reports indicate that the unfortunate incident occurred at Madanchowk in Kohalpur along the East-West Highway. Budhachhetri sustained serious injuries to his head, face, and chest in the collision.

The driver of the jeep, identified as Arjun Basnet from Ghorahi-11 in the Dang district, fled the scene after the accident. However, he was later apprehended from Kohalpur-2 by law enforcement authorities.

“Investigations into the case have been initiated,” stated the police, as they work to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident. The incident has raised concerns about road safety and adherence to traffic regulations, prompting authorities to emphasize the importance of responsible driving and vigilance on the roads.
