Two Suspects Unveiled in Grisly Mugu Family Murder Case

The police publicly identified and presented two suspects accused of brutally murdering a family of four in Mandu of Chhayanath Rara Municipality-6 in Mugu district two weeks ago. The accused, 31-year-old Gorkharaj Shahi alias Kale of Chhayanath-7, currently residing in Banke, and 31-year-old Gopal Bahadur Bohara of Chhayanath-6, were unveiled during a press conference at the Mugu District Police Office on Friday afternoon.

Deputy Inspector General Bhim Dhakal, also the Karnali Province police chief, disclosed that Shahi was apprehended in Birendranagar, Surkhet, on Monday, while Bohara was captured at his residence in Mandu on Friday.

The police investigation revealed that Gopal Bahadur Bohara’s motive behind the heinous crime was rooted in revenge. Allegedly, he had requested the victim’s husband, Deepak Bohara, to assist him in securing a foreign employment visa from a Qatar-based company where Deepak was employed. When Deepak failed to fulfill the request, Gopal orchestrated and executed the murder.

Gopal, identified as the mastermind, then enlisted the help of Gorkharaj Shahi to carry out the crime. Following the plan, Shahi traveled to Mugu on October 22. At 9 pm on October 26, the duo ruthlessly murdered the 26-year-old woman and her three children using a khukuri. They fled the scene with a mobile set, a pair of earrings, and a necklace, according to the police.

After committing the gruesome act, Gorkharaj Shahi made his way to the Mugu-Jumla border and escaped to Surkhet on a bus, stated DIG Dhakal. The lifeless bodies of the 26-year-old woman, her 11-year-old and six-month-old sons, and a seven-year-old daughter were discovered at their residence on October 27.

The arrests and revelations shed light on the disturbing details surrounding the murders, leaving the community in shock and raising questions about the motives that led to such a tragic event.
