UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres Holds Meetings in Nepal

Kathmandu, October 29: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, currently on a four-day official visit to Nepal, held a series of important meetings today.

The day began with a courtesy call on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at the Singha Durbar-based Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. Chief Secretary Dr. Baikuntha Aryal and Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Paudyal warmly welcomed the UN Secretary-General prior to the meeting.

Before this meeting, Antonio Guterres had separate discussions with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense, Purna Bahadur Khadka, and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Narayan Prakash Saud. The Foreign Minister extended a warm welcome to the UN Secretary-General upon his arrival at the VVIP lounge of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) this morning.

During his visit, Antonio Guterres is also scheduled to meet with President Ramchandra Paudel, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli later today.

In addition to these important diplomatic engagements, the UN Secretary-General plans to visit the historic Lalitpur-based Patan Durbar Square today as part of his visit to Nepal.
