UN Secretary-General António Guterres to Arrive in Nepal for Three-Day Visit

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, is set to visit Nepal for a significant three-day trip. An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that Secretary-General Guterres will arrive in Kathmandu on October 13th.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively preparing for his arrival, with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ extending a formal invitation during his visit to New York for the United Nations General Assembly.

Secretary-General Guterres’ visit to Nepal primarily revolves around addressing ongoing peace processes and the resolution of unresolved issues from the conflict period. The topic of transitional justice remains high on the agenda.

During his visit, Secretary-General Guterres will also embark on a trip outside of Kathmandu to gain a better understanding of Nepal’s diverse regions and challenges.

Additionally, Secretary-General Guterres aims to assess Nepal’s progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, set to be accomplished by 2030. Challenges have been identified in meeting these vital goals.
