UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ Visit to Nepal Postponed

The much-anticipated visit of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to Nepal, scheduled for October 13, has been postponed due to the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.

Sewa Lamsal, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed the postponement, stating that a new date for Secretary-General Guterres’ visit to Nepal would be determined in consultation with him.

Explaining the reason behind the postponement, Lamsal said, “The Israel-Palestine conflict has created a new situation, necessitating the postponement of his visit to Nepal. We will coordinate and arrange a new date that aligns with both his schedule and ours.”

Secretary-General Guterres’ visit coincided with a time when Nepali political parties were actively working to resolve ongoing conflicts. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had extended an invitation to Guterres during his visit to the United Nations General Assembly.

During his planned stay in Nepal, Secretary-General Guterres had scheduled meetings with President Ramchandra Paudel, Prime Minister Dahal, and various political party leaders. He had also intended to meet with conflict victims.
