University Appointments Should Not Be Based on Political Quotas: Gagan Thapa

General secretary of Nepali Congress Gagan Kumar Thapa has stressed the government not to appoint the leading positions of universities including Tribhuvan University by political quota.

Amidst the process of appointing the Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, he alerted the government to not appoint in leading positions of universities by dividing seats politically.

Addressing the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Thapa said that the university should fill the position of Vice-Chancellor in such a way that no citizens can raise questions on the decision. Special attention must be paid to building a child-friendly environment in the university.

General Secretary Thapa said, “If the incumbent government fails to appoint the leading positions in the university fairly or decides to divide seats among TU, Purbanchal University, and Pokhara University, then all will be just the talk.  Can we connect the issues of the general population with the work of Parliament or the government? We can see a horde of schools standing, students running to get an education, but they are just reading not learning.”

He expressed the belief that the government will pay special attention to the current session of parliament on formulating federalism laws.
