Who Said What? Leaders Share Praise for Team Nepal’s T20 WC Qualification

Nepal’s remarkable journey in the T20 World Cup qualifiers has captured the nation’s hearts, and the country’s leaders have shared their thoughts on the team’s historic achievement.

After securing a spot in the T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in America and the West Indies in June 2024, prominent political figures have congratulated Team Nepal and expressed their support.

Prime Minister and Maoist Chair Prachanda showed his deep appreciation, saying, “I heartily congratulate the Nepalese cricket team for being selected for the T-20 World Cup tournament. I express my highest respect on behalf of the Nepalese government for the success and height achieved by the Nepalese cricket team in recent times. Also, I express my commitment that the government will always be with the Nepalese team, wishing them success in their upcoming journey.”

KP Sharma Oli, CPN (UML) Chairperson and former Prime Minister expressed his joy, saying, “Victory after constant effort! Congratulations Team Nepal! The next trip is the World Cup. Cheers!!”

Rabindra Mishra, the senior vice-chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) highlighted the challenges faced by the players and the need for improved facilities, saying, “Kudos to you! And good luck! Unfortunately, players with no good food, clothes and no salary play in the World Cup. And we cannot build a stadium for decades. But for the minister who does not build a stadium and commits corruption in the food, food, and wages of the players, who changes 12 times in 6 months, we will spend billions and build a #sinnerresidence (aka, minister residence).”

Unified Socialist Chairperson and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Nepalese cricket team, saying, “Hearty congratulations to the Nepalese cricket team for reaching the T20 World Cup cricket tournament, and best wishes for success in the upcoming tournaments as well!”

President of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) celebrated the team’s success and called for more support, saying, “Congratulations to Team Nepal for qualifying for the 2024 T20 World Cup by defeating UAE by 8 wickets today in Asia Qualifiers. After a decade, another opportunity has come. Players will now need to practice more and build confidence. The government should create more environment for both of them.”

Bibeksheel Sajha Party politician Milan Pandey celebrated the dream come true, saying, “Congratulations Nepal. Congratulations Nepali. The World Cup dream came true. Jai Nepal Jai Nepali cricket.”

Nepal’s journey to the T20 World Cup has been a source of national pride, and the government and leaders have vowed to support the team as they prepare for this prestigious tournament. The nation is eagerly awaiting the opportunity to shine on the global cricketing stage once more after a decade-long wait.
