World Feminist Forum for Women Rights Endorses 11-Point Declaration

The call for gender justice reverberated through the halls of the Women Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC) as the 11-point declaration, endorsed by the World Feminist Forum for Women Rights, was unveiled amidst a press meet on Wednesday.

Dr. Renu Adhikari, Chair of WOREC Nepal, led the unveiling, emphasizing the pressing need for women’s leadership roles in the face of global environmental degradation and injustice. Dr. Adhikari highlighted the demand for policy reforms and equitable resource distribution to ensure justice for all women, who disproportionately bear the brunt of such crises.

The declaration cast a critical eye on the intersectionality of capitalism, colonialism, and patriarchy, particularly in their impact on youths, women, and sexual and gender minorities. It advocated for the establishment of youth leadership in politics to facilitate transformative change.

Digital violence, a growing concern in the digital age, was condemned in the declaration, with a call for women-friendly laws and policies to counter such acts. The commodification and objectification of women’s bodies in consumerist societies were denounced, with a plea for corrective measures.

Furthermore, the declaration urged for intensified activism and movements to safeguard the rights of indigenous peoples, landless individuals, and rural communities, especially in their struggles for land and housing.

Addressing the disproportionate impact of resource exploitation, violence, and inequality on women and children, the declaration advocated for justice, equality, and human rights for all, rejecting economic systems driven by uncontrolled markets and unjust development practices. Export-oriented policies were critiqued for their role in commodifying the human body and perpetuating forced migration, displacement, and human trafficking.
