Minister Shrestha Calls for Game-Changing Move: Sports Policy Overhaul in the Works!

In an effort to elevate Nepal’s sports sector, Minister for Youth and Sports, Birajbhakta Shrestha, declared the initiation of a revision process for the country’s sports policy. Expressing dissatisfaction with the current policy’s inability to foster sector growth, the Minister highlighted the necessity for a more comprehensive, sports-oriented approach.

Speaking at an event organized by the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) in the capital, Minister Shrestha emphasized the importance of a policy geared towards holistic development rather than individual-centric strategies. He underscored the potential for sports to serve as a conduit for diplomacy on the global stage, stressing the pivotal role of the Olympic Committee in upholding international standards.

Moreover, Minister Shrestha highlighted the role of sports in mitigating youth frustration, signaling the broader societal benefits of investing in sports infrastructure and initiatives.

Echoing similar sentiments, President of the Nepal Olympic Committee and former minister, Jeevanram Shrestha, lamented the lack of tangible results in the country’s sports sector, attributing it to persistent instability.

As the government gears up for policy revision, stakeholders anticipate a transformative shift towards a more robust and inclusive sports framework, poised to harness the nation’s athletic potential and foster a culture of sportsmanship and excellence.
