Upendra Yadav Challenges Election Commission Decision
Upendra Yadav, the President of Janata Samajwadi Party, Nepal, has taken legal action against the Election Commission’s recent decision. Dissatisfied with the recognition given to the Janata Samajwadi Party led by Ashok Kumar Rai, Yadav filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court on Monday. In the petition, Yadav challenges the EC’s decision and demands its reversal, naming the EC and others as opponents.
Yadav’s petition also seeks a mandamus order from the Supreme Court to revoke the recognition of the newly-formed party and end the splinter group’s status as federal parliament members. The Supreme Court has scheduled the preliminary hearing of the case for May 15.
The controversy stems from Rai’s application to the EC on May 5 to form a new political party after splitting from the JSP, Nepal. Subsequently, on May 6, the EC granted certification to the Janata Samajwadi Party, leading to Yadav’s legal challenge.
