1,081 Human Rights Violations Reported in Sudurpaschim Province in 2024

A total of 1,081 incidents of human rights violations and abuses were recorded in Sudurpaschim Province in 2024, affecting 1,999 individuals, according to a report by the Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC). The findings were presented during a press conference on the ‘Nepal Human Rights Yearbook 2025 and the Human Rights Situation in the Province,’ organized by INSEC’s Sudurpaschim Province Office in Dhangadhi on Wednesday.

INSEC Province Coordinator Khadkaraj Joshi stated that of the total cases, 11 were categorized as human rights violations, affecting one woman and ten men, while 1,088 were classified as abuses, impacting 1,094 women and 34 men. The report highlighted 11 victims of state actions, including two cases of assault, six arrests, one death in jail, one death in custody, and one instance of inhumane treatment.

Additionally, nine individuals lost their lives due to physical assaults and attacks with sharp weapons, while 11 sustained injuries. There were 105 reported cases of child rights violations, three cases of caste-based discrimination, 947 incidents related to women’s rights violations, two cases of inhumane treatment, eight incidents of assault, and three cases of intimidation.

The report noted a decline in human rights violations and intimidation compared to 2023, with the number of victims decreasing by 102 in 2024.
