190 Chinese deported from Nepal in 1 year

190 Chinese people living in Nepal illegally have been deported. They were deported last year (year 2022) so that they could not return to Nepal for a specified period.

According to the Department of Immigration, 564 foreign nationals have been deported from Nepal in the last one year. Those who were staying in Nepal without obtaining a visa or renewing it even after the visa expired were sent back.

Foreigners convicted of various crimes have also been deported.  Such crimes range from heinous crimes like murder and rape to fraud and banking crimes. 504 were persons whose visas expired and were convicted for various crimes.

According to the department, it has been found that most Chinese citizens are living illegally in Nepal. Even though the visa period has expired, they have been staying without renewing it. The number of Chinese citizens who are expelled from Nepal every year is the highest.

According to the department, they were also found to be involved in various crimes. In recent years, some Chinese citizens in Nepal have been arrested for being involved in cyber crime, illegal money laundering, betting, etc., according to police data.

Also in the past, Chinese citizens were involved in the smuggling of endangered animal parts, drugs, dollar transactions and gold. Three Chinese nationals were arrested with 8 kg of gold on 28 November, 2019. They tried to smuggle gold to Nepal through Hong Kong. Similarly, on 5 August , 2019, a Chinese citizen was arrested at Tribhuvan International Airport with four kg of gold. He tried to smuggle gold into Nepal by hiding it in a cloth belt from Hong Kong.

On 29 October , 2018, the police arrested a Chinese man at the airport with 122400 dollars while trying to take it away by illegally exchanging it. On 20 August , 2018, the police arrested three Chinese nationals from Thamel along with seahorse and tiger skins. Chinese citizens have been found involved in many such incidents.

Similarly, last year 44 Americans, 30 from the UK, 19 from France and 17 from Canada were deported.
