Third International Investment Summit Rescheduled for April 28-29

Sushil Bhatta, Chief Executive Officer of the Investment Board and member secretary of the Investment Summit Steering Committee, revealed that the Third International Investment Summit, originally scheduled for April 21-22, has been rescheduled. The revised dates for the summit are now April 28 and 29.

The decision to reschedule the event comes after careful consideration and will be officially endorsed during the second meeting of the Steering Committee at the Finance Ministry today. The Steering Committee, led by Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat, plays a pivotal role in approving the schedule and format of the Summit, identifying areas for policy reforms to enhance the investment atmosphere, and overseeing all aspects of the event.

Comprising ministers from various sectors including foreign affairs, energy, water resources and irrigation, physical infrastructure and transport, culture, tourism and civil aviation, industry, agriculture, urban development, federal affairs, and general administration, the Steering Committee also includes key figures such as the vice-chair of the National Planning Commission, chief secretary, governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, and representatives from the private sector.

The first meeting of the Steering Committee, held on November 26, set the tone for the government’s role in facilitating discussions with potential investors, identifying likely investors, calling for project proposals, and securing their endorsements.

To ensure seamless preparations for the Summit, two committees have been formed – the Implementation Committee and the Technical Committee. These committees are tasked with undertaking legal and structural reforms, as well as informing potential investors about the upcoming event. The Implementation Committee, coordinated by the chief secretary, has recently issued a circular through the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, calling for details of viable projects to be presented as showcase projects during the Summit.

As the rescheduled dates approach, stakeholders are eager to witness the impact of the Summit on Nepal’s investment climate and the potential for attracting international investments.
