Over 250 Users Face Power Cuts as NEA Dhangadhi Enforces Strict Measures

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Dhangadhi, has initiated a stringent crackdown on users who have not paid their bills. The Dhangadhi Electricity Distribution Centre has commenced the disconnection of power lines for both government offices and individual consumers who have been neglecting their electricity bills despite repeated reminders.

As per the latest data, the NEA has successfully disconnected the power lines of 253 users in Dhangadhi and Attariya, with the outstanding amount reaching a staggering Rs 15.34 million. Mithilesh Kumar Goyal, Chief of the Distribution Centre in Dhangadhi, reported that 180 consumers have settled their tariffs after facing power cuts, resulting in a recovery of Rs 7.83 million in the past month.

Interestingly, the Dhangadhi Electricity Distribution Centre has taken a bold step by cutting the power lines of seven government offices, including the Land Revenue Office, Survey, and Road departments. Shockingly, these offices collectively owe Rs 602,607 in unpaid electricity bills. However, the recovery from these government offices has been minimal, with only Rs 148,640 collected after the disconnection.

The distribution center, responsible for over 79,000 users, has emphasized its commitment to continue cutting off power for those who fail to pay their bills promptly. According to Chief Goyal, this enforcement is in line with the electricity bye-laws, which dictate that power lines can be cut if dues remain unpaid even after the 60th day of meter reading.

In a stern warning, Goyal mentioned the provision to blacklist consumers who persistently neglect their bills for six months post-disconnection, signaling a further step in the recovery process. As the NEA takes resolute measures, users are urged to settle their outstanding bills to avoid disruptions in their power supply.
