Supreme Court Seeks Prime Minister’s Response on Contempt of Court Over Giribandhu Case

The Supreme Court has demanded a written reply from Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli regarding why he should not face contempt charges for his failure to implement the Giribandhu Tea Estate land case ruling.
In a significant move, the Court has issued a show cause order to the Prime Minister, requesting an explanation within seven days. The Court has also directed both the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Land Management to submit their written responses in the same period.
Moreover, the Court has ordered the original file related to the Giribandhu Tea Estate case—issued by the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court last year—to be submitted for review.
The contempt petition was filed by Advocate Om Prakash Aryal, who argued that instead of enforcing the Supreme Court’s ruling, the Prime Minister’s office issued an ordinance to extend the time limit for its implementation.
A bench comprising Justices Sharanga Subedi and Nityanand Pandey has instructed that both the written response and relevant case files be provided for further examination.
