Activist Iih Announces 108-Hour Stand-in Protest Against Lalitpur’s Street Vendor Ban

In a bold move to challenge the recent ban on street vendors along the Mangalbajar-Lagankhel road, renowned activist Iih has declared a 108-hour stand-in protest in front of the Lalitpur Metropolitan City. This follows Iih’s previous 199-hour protest outside the Kathmandu Metropolitan City office, where he demanded accountability for the perceived inhumane treatment of street vendors in the city.

Iih, known for his relentless advocacy for social justice, announced that the protest will commence at 3 pm on Tuesday. The activist is taking a principled stand against the decision to prohibit street vendors on the specified road section during mornings and evenings.

In a statement on social media platform X, Iih expressed his concerns, stating, “Don’t Kill the Lalitpur Dream! 108 Minute Stand | 3 PM | Tuesday bholi | LMC Pulchowk. Yala has earned distinction through its commitment to inclusive & compassionate governance. Efforts to annul key night-morning vending zones are against the city’s spirit.”

During his previous protest in Kathmandu, Iih voiced concerns over the challenges faced by street vendors and urged the authorities to address their grievances. Now, he is extending his activism to Lalitpur, seeking a reconsideration of the ban and advocating for the rights of those whose livelihoods are impacted.

“I believe in the power of peaceful protests to bring about positive change. It’s essential for the metropolis to reconsider their decision and find a balanced approach that addresses both urban planning concerns and the livelihoods of street vendors,” Iih remarked.
