Deuba Emphasizes Role of Democratic Thought Society
In an address to the 26th General Assembly and Democracy Fighters Honour Programme of the Democratic Thought Society, Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister, Sher Bahadur Deuba, underscored the pivotal role of such organizations in fortifying democracy. He commended the contributions of former minister Yog Prasad Upadhyaya, highlighting his instrumental role in bolstering both democracy and the organizational strength of the NC.
“Yog Prasad jee is not just a senior leader but a stalwart of the political movement,” Deuba remarked, expressing his appreciation for Upadhyaya’s dedication to democracy, notably during the 1960 movement, even while residing abroad.
Deuba also addressed recent controversies, notably regarding the Giribandhu Tea Estate. He clarified that decisions concerning the estate were made during the tenure of the UML government, deflecting blame from the NC. “The NC should not be held responsible for any misappropriation regarding the Giribandhu Tea Estate,” he asserted.
