Gold Smuggling Case: DRI Hands Over Case to Police

The Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) has taken a major step in the ongoing gold smuggling case. The DRI Director General Nava Raj Dhungana announced during a press conference on Sunday that they have decided to hand over the investigation of the gold smuggling case to the police.

Describing the case as an organized crime, Dhungana stated that the complexity of the investigation has led them to involve the police in the process. As part of this decision, the DRI is also transferring those arrested in connection with the gold smuggling scam to the police for further investigation.

Since the initiation of the case, the DRI has apprehended a total of 18 individuals linked to the gold smuggling scam. However, in a compassionate move, customs agent Rukmina Subba was released on guarantee on Thursday due to her health condition. Subba, who is suffering from throat cancer, requires medical treatment, and the DRI has taken this into consideration while releasing her.

The remaining 17 individuals involved in the gold smuggling case will now be handed over to the police, marking a crucial turning point in the ongoing investigation.
