ICP Yet to Commence Operations Two Months After Inauguration

Delay in Handover and Ongoing Tasks Hinders Nepal-India Border Connectivity

The Integrated Check Post (ICP) established along the Nepal-India border in Nepalgunj remains non-operational, even one and a half months after its inauguration. The jointly inaugurated facility by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1st June is yet to be brought into operation, causing concerns over cross-border connectivity improvements.

The inauguration of the ICP, located in Nepalgunj-Rupaidiya, was conducted remotely from Hyderabad House, the Office of the Indian Prime Minister. The facility is envisioned to enhance cross-border connectivity between Nepal and India, promoting smoother trade and exchange.

Bijay Keshar Khanal, Chief of Building Division Office in Nepalgunj, disclosed that the construction company has not yet handed over the building to the government, leading to the delay in operationalizing the ICP. Additionally, ongoing physical work at the site further contributes to the delay.

Furthermore, human resource management and security arrangements are yet to be finalized, which are crucial components for the smooth functioning of the ICP. Authorities expect these tasks to be completed in the near future.

Khanal revealed that based on the current progress, it may take approximately two more months for the ICP in Nepalgunj to become fully operational, leaving stakeholders and citizens eagerly awaiting its eventual commencement.

The delay in the operation of the ICP has raised concerns among citizens and businesses alike, as it was expected to significantly improve trade and ease movement across the Nepal-India border. As the respective authorities work diligently to overcome the current obstacles, hopes to remain high that the ICP will soon become fully functional, fostering stronger bilateral ties and facilitating efficient cross-border trade and travel.
