India and Nepal Jointly Inaugurate Post-Earthquake Reconstruction Projects

The External Affairs Minister of India, S. Jaishankar, and Nepal’s Foreign Minister, N.P. Saud, jointly inaugurated several post-earthquake reconstruction projects, underscoring the strengthened ties between the two neighboring nations. The notable inclusion in the inauguration was the Tribhuvan University Central Library in Kathmandu, a testament to the collaborative efforts between India and Nepal.

The Central Library, a symbol of educational resilience, was constructed with a generous grant from the Government of India. During the ceremony, Minister Jaishankar highlighted the transformative nature of the India-Nepal relationship, emphasizing the expanded partnership and the pivotal role of physical, digital, and energy-related connectivity in fostering collaboration between the two nations.

Minister Jaishankar also expressed the unwavering commitment of the Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to redefine and strengthen relationships with neighboring countries, giving special attention to Nepal. The emphasis on connectivity signifies a strategic vision that extends beyond physical infrastructure to encompass a broader spectrum of shared interests.

Foreign Minister N.P. Saud, in his address, acknowledged the substantial financial support received from India in the post-earthquake reconstruction efforts. He specifically noted the successful rebuilding of a significant number of private homes in Gorkha and Nuwakot districts, thanks to India’s assistance.

India’s commitment to Nepal’s reconstruction journey was evident in the support provided for the construction of 50,000 houses in Gorkha (benefiting 26,912 individuals) and Nuwakot (benefiting 23,088 individuals) in earlier phases of the collaborative effort. Foreign Minister Saud expressed gratitude for the enduring partnership, emphasizing the positive impact on the lives of thousands of citizens in the affected regions.

The joint inauguration ceremony serves as a symbol of solidarity and mutual cooperation, marking a new chapter in the India-Nepal relationship. As both nations continue to work together on shared goals, the event highlights the importance of regional cooperation in addressing common challenges and fostering sustainable development.
