India-Nepal Projects Portfolio Performance Review Meeting Promotes Bilateral Collaboration

In a significant diplomatic initiative, the Embassy of India in Kathmandu and the Ministry of Finance, Government of Nepal, convened a pivotal Projects Portfolio Performance Review Meeting on November 30, 2023. The high-profile gathering featured the Indian delegation led by Ambassador Naveen Srivastava and the Nepali side under the guidance of Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, Finance Minister, Government of Nepal.

The meeting focused on a comprehensive review of ongoing projects within various sectors, operating under the India-Nepal development cooperation framework. These projects receive funding through Grant assistance and various Lines of Credit. Additionally, both delegations engaged in exploratory discussions on potential sectors for future collaboration between India and Nepal.

Ambassador Srivastava underscored India’s unwavering commitment to robust development cooperation with Nepal. He reaffirmed the Government of India’s dedication and support for working closely with the Government of Nepal to align development efforts with Nepal’s priorities. Finance Minister Mr. Mahat acknowledged the substantial support provided by the Government of India, emphasizing its pivotal role in advancing Nepal’s developmental endeavors. Mr. Mahat expressed the Government of Nepal’s commitment to further enhancing this cooperation in additional potential sectors.

The meeting witnessed active participation from representatives of various ministries, departments, and agencies of the Government of Nepal involved in project implementation. Officers and officials from the Embassy of India also actively contributed to the discussions, highlighting the collaborative spirit underlying the bilateral partnership.

India continues to stand as the largest and most prominent development partner of Nepal, with the India-Nepal development partnership tracing its roots back to 1951. Over the last seven decades, this partnership has not only endured but also expanded, incorporating projects of diverse sizes and sectors with a geographical spread across Nepal.

This meeting reinforces the enduring friendship and collaboration between India and Nepal, highlighting a shared commitment to fostering development and prosperity in the region. As both nations look ahead, the discussion on potential future collaboration opens avenues for continued growth and cooperation, promising a brighter future for this vital diplomatic relationship.
