India’s PM Modi Performs “Pranayama” and Offers Prayers at Iconic Ram Setu

In the culmination of his 3-day visit to Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook a significant pilgrimage to Arichalmunai, a southern tip in Tamil Nadu. This visit, part of his Ramayana-connect series across the state, held special significance as Arichalmunai is believed to be the site where the ancient Ram Setu, also known as Adam’s Bridge, was constructed.

The Prime Minister, who had spent the previous night in Rameswaram, reached Arichalmunai and engaged in ‘pranayama’ (breathing exercise) by the seashore. Displaying reverence, he offered prayers utilizing the sea water, symbolizing the cultural and mythological importance of the location in the epic Ramayana.

Ram Setu is believed to have been built by Lord Ram with the assistance of the ‘Vaanara sena’ to facilitate his journey to Lanka for the battle against Ravana. In a symbolic gesture, PM Modi laid flowers on the beach and paid floral tributes at a pillar adorned with the national emblem, commemorating the historic and spiritual significance of the site.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Arichalmunai follows his exploration of Ramayana-linked temples in Tamil Nadu, including the Sri Ranganathaswamy and Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy temples in Srirangam and Rameswaram, respectively. This pilgrimage coincides with the upcoming consecration of the grand Shri Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, scheduled for Monday.

The Prime Minister’s 3-day tour also included the inauguration of the Khelo India Games 2023 in Chennai on Friday. Earlier in the week, he visited temples in Andhra Pradesh and Kerala with Ramayana relevance, showcasing a cultural and spiritual connect across states.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s series of visits to temples and sites of historical importance underline the rich tapestry of India’s cultural heritage, with a particular emphasis on the shared narrative of the Ramayana.
