Judicial Council Forms Committee to Investigate Complaints Against District Judges

The Judicial Council (JC) has taken a significant step in addressing judicial complaints by forming a specialized committee to investigate allegations against three district judges. During a meeting held on Sunday, the JC decided to initiate a thorough inquiry into the complaints received, signaling a commitment to transparency and accountability in the judiciary.

The three district judges under scrutiny are Ambika Niraula, Parashuram Bhattarai, and Raj Kumar Koirala. The complaints against them will be examined by a three-member inquiry committee, with Supreme Court (SC) Justice Ananda Mohan Bhattarai leading the investigative efforts.

The formation of the committee comes after an initial review of the complaints raised concerns, prompting the need for a more in-depth investigation. The committee is tasked with conducting a comprehensive study of the complaints, gathering relevant information, and submitting a detailed report to the JC.

Sources within the JC have confirmed that the examination of the complaints is already underway. Some of the allegations against the judges are reportedly pending, while others are actively being investigated. The JC is committed to a fair and impartial process, ensuring that all complaints are thoroughly reviewed.

According to the Judicial Council Act, a member of the JC or a committee of judges from the Supreme Court can recommend the dismissal of a judge under investigation. This legal framework emphasizes the accountability of judges and underscores the importance of maintaining public trust in the judiciary.
