Madhav Nepal Criticizes Oli’s Leadership Style

At a recent event in the capital, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairman of the Unified Socialist Party and part of the ruling coalition, sharply criticized KP Sharma Oli, Chairman of CPN-UML, blaming him for the party’s electoral losses.

Speaking on Friday, the former Prime Minister reflected on the 2079 BS elections, stating that the disappointing results were largely due to the arrogance of certain leaders, a marked contrast from the substantial electoral support in 2074 BS.

Chairman Nepal expressed regret over the missed opportunities to capitalize on the communist votes accumulated in the previous election, directly attributing the electoral decline to Oli’s leadership style. “Some leaders’ arrogant attitude will lead to his downfall,” Nepal remarked, drawing a historical parallel with the downfall of Adolf Hitler, emphasizing the destructive potential of hubris.

Highlighting the significant majority the party once held, Nepal lamented, “We obtained nearly two-thirds majority in 2074 BS. Utilizing it effectively would have eased our path in 2079 BS,” indicating that the misuse of power and overconfidence among the leadership had eroded their electoral base.

Nepal also emphasized the unique position of the communists in effecting societal change in Nepal, calling for vigilance against the corrupting influence of power. “Upon ascending to power, one must remain humble,” he advised, cautioning that reckless indulgence in power could lead to severe consequences.

Despite their differences, Nepal recognized Oli’s contributions during the republican movement but criticized his underestimation of the effort required to transition Nepal to a republic, comparing it to “taking a bullock cart to America.”
