UML Supports Investigation into Cooperative Fraud, Sets Conditions

In a recent statement, Mahesh Bartaula, the chief whip of CPN-UML, announced the party’s readiness to support an investigation into the cooperative fraud case that has sparked controversy. As a key member of the Dahal-led coalition government, CPN-UML’s backing is pivotal for the investigation to proceed.

Bartaula highlighted the party’s commitment to addressing the concerns raised by the opposition, stressing the importance of clarity in the demands. “The Nepali Congress (NC) should specify whether it seeks an inquiry into the entire cooperative fraud case or into particular individuals,” he stated.

While the CPN-UML is open to an investigation, Bartaula noted a significant caveat: the party would oppose any inquiry that appears to target specific individuals without broader justification. This statement comes amidst allegations from the Nepali Congress, which has been pushing for an investigation through a parliamentary committee, specifically suspecting the involvement of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.

The situation remains tense as both sides negotiate the terms and scope of the potential investigation, with significant implications for political dynamics and justice in the case.
