Marie Stopes Nepal and Rotary Club Join Hands for Cervical Cancer Prevention

Marie Stopes International Nepal, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Kathmandu, organized a cervical cancer screening camp to promote women’s health and early detection of cervical cancer in the community.

The health camp, held at Gahana Pokhari, Kathmandu, was organized by Trishakti Yuwa Club and featured multiple health services, including cervical cancer screening through Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) and gynecological checkups. The screening service was provided by Sunaulo Pariwar Nepal, the implementing partner of Marie Stopes International.

The Rotary Club of Kathmandu sponsored the cervical cancer screening, while Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology offered eye checkups and Green City Hospital provided kidney and basic health checkup services.

Minister of Health and Population Pradeep Paudel inaugurated the health camp, reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing accessible healthcare services.

During the camp, 90 community women underwent VIA screening, out of which six women tested positive. Those testing positive were counseled and referred to Marie Stopes Centre, Putalisadak, and other health facilities for further treatment.

Senior Advisor to Marie Stopes International, KP Upadhyay, highlighted that the initiative not only provided crucial health services but also raised awareness about cervical cancer prevention through early detection at the community level.

The collaborative initiative showcased the importance of community-based healthcare programs in improving women’s health and strengthening partnerships for preventive health measures.
