NBA to resume protest on Friday

Nepal Bar Association has decided to continue the protest against suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana’s entry to the Supreme Court.

Rana was preparing to return to the Supreme Court for work on Wednesday after the General Secretary of the Federal Parliament Secretariat has given Rana a letter stating that the impeachment motion which was registered in the parliament against him has become inactive.

Legal practitioners, officials of the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) and Supreme Court Bar Association arguing that the letter of suspension issued by the Parliament Secretariat was against the constitution, had started the protest after knowing that Rana would resume his job after receiving the letter from the Parliament Secretariat.

They gathered at the main entrance of the Supreme Court on Wednesday afternoon to stop Chief Justice Rana from resuming his office. However, the suspended Chief Justice didn’t go to the supreme court today.

The protest for Wednesday has ended, said officials of the bar association.

Gopal Krishna Ghimire, president of the Nepal Bar Association, informed that their protest will resume at 10 am on Friday.

“Thursday is a public holiday so we won’t be protesting then. We will continue our protest from Friday,” said Ghimire.
