NC-UML Lawmakers Gather at Koshi Province Chief’s Office in Support of Kedar Karki

Lawmakers from the Nepali Congress and CPN UML have jointly approached the provincial chief, Parashuram Khapung, demanding the appointment of Kedar Karki as the Chief Minister of Koshi Province. The lawmakers presented their claim to the province chief with signatures from 47 legislators, in accordance with Article 168 (5) of the Constitution. The constitutional deadline for submitting claims for the Chief Minister position is set to expire at 5 pm on Friday.

Karki, who is vying for the Chief Minister’s post, stated that the majority of 47 lawmakers supporting him had gathered at the Province Chief’s Office, emphasizing their readiness to verify the signatures. Ekraj Karki, a UML lawmaker, asserted, “Kedar Karki should be appointed Chief Minister. We have 47 MPs, and we are prepared to verify the signatures in person.”

In a parallel development, Indra Angbo, on behalf of a coalition consisting of Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Center, CPN- Unified Socialist Party, and Janata Samajbadi Party, also submitted a claim for the Chief Ministership. With 47 MPs’ signatures backing their claim, the provincial chief is currently in the midst of a legal consultation.

It’s worth noting that the support of 47 lawmakers is a prerequisite to stake a claim for the government in Koshi Province. The situation remains dynamic as political dynamics unfold in the region.
