Nepal Stays Non-Aligned and Independent: Foreign Minister Saud

In a resolute address at the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) ministerial meeting in Kampala, Uganda, Nepal’s Foreign Minister NP Saud emphasized the country’s steadfast commitment to a non-aligned foreign policy, asserting that Nepal would not join any military alliance or become part of the security pact of any nation.

During his speech, Foreign Minister Saud underlined that Nepal’s dedication to NAM’s objectives and principles is enshrined in the nation’s constitution, forming the cornerstone of its foreign policy. He stressed the importance of an independent, objective, balanced, and non-aligned approach to foreign affairs, extending this commitment beyond summit meetings.

Addressing the global community, Saud urged NAM to collectively advocate for an inclusive global order where countries can prosper equitably. He highlighted the need for NAM to focus on achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other internationally agreed-upon development objectives, including the Paris Agreement. Saud emphasized the importance of embracing technology to drive progress for all and ensuring climate justice for vulnerable countries and regions.

The Foreign Minister called for strong collaboration at the global level while promoting cooperation among NAM member countries in areas such as trade, investment, and technology transfer. He outlined Nepal’s efforts to graduate from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status and expressed the country’s aspirations for development and prosperity.

Saud concluded by reiterating Nepal’s commitment to playing a role in making the world more peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable for current and future generations.
