Nepali Actor Tank Dhamala Shines in British Film ‘Kama’

Nepali cinema has been making waves internationally, with films like Min Bahadur Bham’s Shambala and Deepak Rauniyar’s Rajagunj earning accolades at global film festivals. Adding to this success, Nepali actor Tank Dhamala is now gaining recognition for his role in the British film Kama, which has been screening in the UK and Ireland since 11 February.
Kama features Dhamala alongside Hollywood actors Matt Wakefordnot, Jemima Tomes, Mia Bennett, and Indian actress Pooja Gupta. Dhamala, known for his role in the Nepali film Sarauto, shared that working in Kama has been a transformative experience in his acting career.
“The audience has responded positively to the film. I’m thrilled that a film in which I play a lead role is being released internationally. This moment is indescribable and marks a significant milestone in my acting journey,” Dhamala said.
The film explores themes of betrayal and revenge, with Dhamala portraying an army officer. To prepare for the role, he underwent rigorous training to understand the psychology and physicality of a soldier. “I worked closely with Simon Gibbon, my acting coach, to delve into the character’s mindset and physicality. This preparation helped me authentically portray the role,” he explained.
In Kama, Dhamala’s character returns home from war only to learn of his wife’s death, setting off a series of gripping events. Dhamala believes the film will captivate audiences who enjoy crime and thriller genres.
Having started his career in modeling in 2018, Dhamala has since expanded into films, advertisements, and music videos. His work in international projects, including the British film Dangerous Game and the Indian film Animal, has enriched his experience.
Looking ahead, Dhamala expressed his desire to focus on quality over quantity in his projects. “Working in foreign films has broadened my perspective. In the future, I aim to be part of meaningful and impactful films,” he said.
With Kama, Dhamala continues to showcase the talent of Nepali actors on the global stage, further cementing his place in the international film industry.
