New School Building Foundation Laid in Baitadi with India’s Financial Assistance

In a significant boost to educational infrastructure in Baitadi District, Gauri Singh Rawal, Mayor of Patan Municipality, together with Shri Avinash Kumar Singh, First Secretary of the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, laid the foundation stone for the new Shree Bhumeshwor Secondary School building at Patan Municipality-4.

The construction is facilitated through a substantial financial commitment of Rs 31.05 million from the Government of India as part of the ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’. The initiative reflects a sustained collaboration under the High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) framework, jointly agreed upon by the governments of India and Nepal.

Designed as a double-storied structure, the school will encompass two main blocks (Block-A and Block-C), equipped with modern educational facilities. The project, managed through the local governance of Patan Municipality in Baitadi, is an emblem of the robust developmental partnership between Nepal and India.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor Rawal expressed deep appreciation for India’s ongoing support in the socio-economic development of Nepal, focusing particularly on critical sectors such as education. “These new facilities will not only provide our children with a conducive learning environment but also signify the strong ties and shared aspirations between our two nations,” he noted.

The event was well-attended by local political figures, educational authorities, social workers, and the school community, indicating broad local support and enthusiasm for the project.

This school project is one of over 551 HICDPs initiated by India in Nepal since 2003, aiming at comprehensive community development. Specifically, in Sudurpashchim Province, where Baitadi is located, India has completed numerous projects, including the construction of other educational facilities and healthcare services. To date, 490 of these projects have been completed across Nepal.

In a broader context of bilateral cooperation, India has also contributed significantly to Nepal’s healthcare sector by donating over 1009 ambulances and 300 school buses to various institutions, enhancing emergency and educational transport services across the country.

As the construction progresses, the new school building at Shree Bhumeshwor Secondary School is expected to become a cornerstone of educational excellence and community development in Baitadi, reinforcing the educational infrastructure that is vital for the region’s future.
