PM KP Sharma Oli Hails Agreement on Transitional Justice Laws as Milestone for Peace
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed satisfaction over the agreement on the transitional justice laws, marking a significant step forward in Nepal’s peace process, which began 18 years ago.
Addressing the House of Representatives (HoR) today, Prime Minister Oli highlighted the importance of the recent consensus on the transitional justice laws, emphasizing the government’s commitment to facilitating their implementation.
“This process is original, a home-grown modality of our own making. We have advanced the peace process as a model for the world,” Oli stated. He underscored the progress made in resolving the conflict and integrating the parties involved, saying, “We have moved forward to bring the conflict to an end as well as to mainstream and uplift the parties separated from the conflict.”
The Prime Minister also pointed out that the laws on truth and reconciliation and the investigation of disappeared persons represent the final chapter of Nepal’s peace process. He commended the unanimous support within the parliamentary committee for focusing on the victims, expressing optimism that these efforts will contribute to Nepal’s global standing as a successful example of conflict resolution.
“As the last installment of the peace process in Nepal, we have taken the law on truth and reconciliation and investigation of disappeared persons forward,” he said. “In this sense, I express happiness. This may be useful for our success in the world.”
The transitional justice laws are seen as a critical step in addressing the grievances of victims and ensuring that the peace process concludes with a focus on justice and reconciliation.
