The Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, met with Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ for high-level talks at the Soaltee Hotel on Wednesday. This meeting was part of the Emir’s two-day state visit aimed at bolstering bilateral ties between the two nations.

During the discussion, which was held at Hotel Soaltee, the leaders explored a wide range of topics pertinent to Nepal-Qatar relations, said Govinda Acharya, the Prime Minister’s Press Advisor. Following these comprehensive bilateral talks, both nations signed a principal bilateral agreement and six memorandums of understanding (MoUs), marking a significant step towards enhancing their mutual cooperation.

Rupak Sapkota, the Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Prime Minister, detailed that the agreements included collaborations between the government news agencies and the Offices of the Attorney General of both countries. The accords also cover cooperation in diplomatic training and studies, as well as initiatives in education, arts and culture exchange, and sports.

In addition to these government-level agreements, the business sectors of both countries also saw major developments. Two pivotal agreements were signed between the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FNCCI). These agreements are set to enhance commercial interactions and open new avenues for trade and investment between Qatar and Nepal.

The signing of these agreements and MoUs underscores a mutual commitment to deepen diplomatic ties and strengthen collaboration across various sectors, which will ultimately benefit both countries. This visit by the Emir and the ensuing agreements are expected to pave the way for a new era in Nepal-Qatar relations, highlighting the importance of strategic international partnerships in Nepal’s foreign policy framework.
