Ramesh Kharel Quits Rashtriya Swatantra Party

Ramesh Kharel, a former Deputy Inspector General, has officially announced his departure from the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP). The decision comes in the wake of mounting tensions between Kharel and the party leadership, particularly its president, Rabi Lamichhane.

The rift between Kharel and the RSP escalated following Kharel’s vocal criticism of Rabi Lamichhane, whom he accused of a conflict of interest due to Lamichhane assuming leadership within the Ministry of Home Affairs. Kharel’s criticism gained attention during a public event where he openly questioned the suitability of Lamichhane’s appointment as Home Minister amidst ongoing controversies surrounding him.

In response to Kharel’s statements, the RSP initiated disciplinary proceedings, requesting clarification from Kharel regarding his criticisms of Lamichhane. However, instead of complying with the party’s demands, Kharel chose to tender his resignation, effectively severing ties with the RSP.

In his resignation letter, which became effective on Wednesday, Kharel expressed his decision to part ways with the party, indicating a definitive end to his association with the RSP. This move underscores the deepening divide within the RSP and raises questions about the party’s internal dynamics and leadership stability.
