Sandeep Lamichhane Heads to Asian Games in China

Sandeep Lamichhane has embarked on a journey to China to participate in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou. However, Lamichhane’s departure was not with the national cricket team, but rather due to an ongoing legal matter.

Approximately one year ago, Lamichhane was accused of rape by a minor. This serious allegation has cast a shadow over his cricketing career, leading to his decision to travel separately from the team. The case has faced significant delays, as the Kathmandu District Court has cited a shortage of available judges, resulting in an indefinite adjournment of the proceedings.

With uncertainty surrounding the date of the next hearing in his case, Sandeep Lamichhane initially expressed hesitation about joining Nepal’s cricket team in China. In a recent meeting with CAN (Cricket Association of Nepal) President Chatur Bahadur Chand, Lamichhane conveyed that he did not feel mentally prepared to participate.

However, a subsequent meeting with CAN secretary Paras Khadka took place on Monday, where Khadka strongly urged Lamichhane to represent Nepal in the Asian Games. Khadka highlighted the possibility of securing a medal for the nation in the sporting event.

Following their discussion, Lamichhane ultimately agreed to make the trip to China with the team. Nepal is scheduled to face Mongolia on Wednesday in the ongoing 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, and cricket fans eagerly await Lamichhane’s contributions to the team’s performance.
