Saudi Arabia Expresses Interest in Cooperative Infrastructure Development with Nepal

A significant step towards bilateral cooperation in infrastructure development was taken as Nepal’s Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Prakash Jwala, met with Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Nepal, Saad Nasser Abdullah Abu Haimed, on Wednesday.

The meeting between Minister Prakash Jwala and Ambassador Saad Nasser Abdullah Abu Haimed delved into crucial matters surrounding infrastructure development and the potential for collaborative ventures in developmental projects. Recognizing Saudi Arabia as a prominent destination for Nepali workers, Minister Jwala extended an invitation for Saudi Arabia to partner in Nepal’s burgeoning infrastructure and transport sector. Presently, approximately 400 thousand Nepali individuals are actively contributing to the labor market in Saudi Arabia, a testament to the deep ties between the two nations.

Highlighting Nepal’s anticipated graduation from the least developed country category by 2026, Minister Jwala emphasized the necessity for sustained investment and bilateral cooperation in Nepal’s infrastructure industry to ensure the continuity of this progress. He underscored the importance of constructive partnerships in facilitating Nepal’s transformative journey.

In response, Ambassador Saad Nasser Abdullah Abu Haimed expressed Saudi Arabia’s eagerness to collaborate with Nepal in the realm of infrastructure and transport. The Ambassador affirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s developmental aspirations and urged the Nepali authorities to present a comprehensive proposal outlining areas of mutual cooperation.

During the meeting, Minister Jwala conveyed Nepal’s decision to endorse Saudi Arabia’s bid to host World Expo 2030, further solidifying the bonds between the two nations and showcasing the spirit of collaboration on the international stage.
