SC Orders Reinstatement of Sudurpaschim Province Lawmaker Indira Giri

The Supreme Court has issued a directive for the reinstatement of Sudurpaschim Province lawmaker, Indira Giri. This decision follows an interim order from the Supreme Court preventing Giri’s removal from office.

The interim order, issued by SC single bench Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, reinstates Giri as a member of parliament.

The controversy arose when Nagarik Unmukti Party Chair Ranjita Shrestha sought Giri’s removal amidst internal conflicts within the party. Giri, affiliated with the Resham Chaudhary faction within the party, faced dismissal from her position after Chairperson Shrestha’s letter to the province Speaker.

The Nagarik Unmukti Party, a key player in Sudurpaschim Province, finds itself divided over alliance preferences for government formation. While Chairperson Shrestha advocates for strengthening ties with CPN-Maoist Center, CPN-UML, and CPN-Unified Socialist Party, Resham Chaudhary pushes for an alliance with Nepali Congress.

Notably, Ranjita Shrestha and Resham Chaudhary are married, adding a familial dynamic to the political divide within the party.
