Schools Shut Down with Conjunctivitis Outbreak in Bharatpur Metropolis and Ratnanagar Municipality, Chitwan

Bharatpur Metropolis and Ratnanagar Municipality in Chitwan take preventive action as conjunctivitis spreads, closing schools for several days.

In response to an alarming increase in cases of conjunctivitis (eye infection), Bharatpur Metropolis and Ratnanagar Municipality in Chitwan have made the difficult decision to close all public and private schools. The outbreak has prompted concerns about the health and well-being of students, leading to the temporary shutdown of educational institutions.

Bharatpur Metropolis announced that schools will remain closed from August 7th to August 11th. The leave days will be adjusted from the students’ winter and summer holidays to minimize the disruption to the academic calendar.

Similarly, Ratnanagar Municipality took preventive measures to curb the spread of the infection. It has requested all private schools operating classes up to grade 12 to suspend their operations starting from August 7th for a specified period. The municipality also urged these schools to conduct eye infection sensitization programs before the closure.

The decision comes in the wake of a widespread outbreak of conjunctivitis in the Chitwan region. Khairahani Municipality in Chitwan had previously taken similar action by closing schools for a brief period to address the rising cases of eye infection among students.

Both Bharatpur Metropolis and Ratnanagar Municipality are actively monitoring the situation and working with health authorities to ensure the well-being of their communities. Parents and students are advised to take necessary precautions and seek medical attention if any symptoms of conjunctivitis are observed.

The local authorities are determined to tackle the outbreak swiftly and efficiently, aiming to safeguard the health and safety of all residents, particularly the student population.
