Sri Lankan Foreign Minister arriving Nepal on Wednesday

In a bid to strengthen diplomatic ties and enhance bilateral cooperation, Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Mohamed Uvais Mohamed Ali Sabry is set to embark on a three-day visit to Nepal starting Wednesday. The visit is of paramount importance as it revolves around the Sri Lanka-Nepal Joint Commission meeting at the Foreign Ministers’ level.

Sources within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have confirmed that Foreign Minister Ali Sabry will lead the Sri Lanka delegation and co-chair the Inaugural Session of the Sri Lanka–Nepal Joint Commission with his Nepalese counterpart, Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash Saud.

The Joint Commission aims to delve into various areas of collaboration between the two nations, spanning trade and investment, tourism, education, defence, culture, connectivity, and people-to-people contacts. As a significant milestone, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in Science, Technology & Innovation is anticipated to be signed during the Joint Commission discussions.

High-level meetings are on the agenda during Foreign Minister Ali Sabry’s stay, emphasizing the mutual commitment to fostering comprehensive and enduring relations. Additionally, the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister will take the opportunity to engage with the Sri Lankan expatriate community in Nepal, reinforcing ties with the diaspora.

Foreign Minister Ali Sabry is scheduled to conclude his visit on Friday, marking the end of a diplomatic mission aimed at reinforcing the bonds between Sri Lanka and Nepal. The visit underscores the commitment of both nations to fostering cooperation across various sectors for the mutual benefit of their citizens.
