Tourist Inflow Soars by 45% in Mustang, Attributed to Favorable Factors

The mesmerizing region of Mustang in Nepal has witnessed a significant surge in tourism, with the number of visitors increasing by a remarkable 45 percent. According to the Area Conservation Office, Jomsom, which operates under the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), the inflow of tourists to Mustang during the fiscal year 2079/80 BS saw a notable upswing compared to the previous fiscal year, 2078/79 BS.

ACAP Jomsom In-charge, Mr. Ashok Subedi, revealed that a total of 71,707 foreign tourists explored the enchanting landscapes of Mustang in the fiscal year 2079/80 BS. This reflects a substantial rise when compared to the preceding fiscal year, which saw 38,896 tourists gracing the region’s ancient landscapes.

“The data indicates a remarkable surge in tourist arrivals both before and after the COVID-19 pandemic,” shared Subedi, highlighting the growing appeal of Mustang as a premier travel destination.

The fiscal year 2079/80 witnessed an impressive 59,310 tourists arriving from SAARC member countries, while 6,749 tourists ventured from other countries across the globe, expressing their eagerness to experience the unique charm of Mustang.

Moreover, Mustang’s semi-prohibited region, Upper Mustang, also experienced a notable influx of tourists, with a total of 3,388 visitors exploring its captivating wonders during the same fiscal year.

Several factors contributed to the remarkable growth in tourism in Mustang. The region’s favorable weather conditions, coupled with improved road access, enhanced hotel and lodge facilities, and minimal incidents of natural disasters, made it an attractive and inviting destination for travelers seeking unforgettable experiences.
