TU Central Library Implements 24/7 Operations to Enhance Student Learning Experience

In a bid to create a more student-friendly environment and encourage a culture of continuous learning, the Tribhuvan University Central Library has initiated round-the-clock operations, allowing students access to study rooms 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Sagar Raj Subedi, the acting head of the Central Library, revealed that the decision to extend operating hours was in response to a request from the Free Student’s Union. Previously, the study rooms were accessible from 5 am to 7 pm, but this move aims to cater to the needs of students who may not have the flexibility to study during conventional hours.

“This will help students who do not have time to study during the day. The students have welcomed this decision,” says Subedi.

Bijaya Sharma, the Library Officer, highlighted that the library predominantly serves researchers and individuals with daytime commitments. The extended hours have already seen positive responses, with 15 to 20 people utilizing the facility daily, some studying from 7 pm until 6 am.

Sharma emphasized that this service is available to all library members, with an annual membership fee of Rs 1,000 and Rs 600 for six months. Many patrons appreciate the library’s conducive environment, stating that they lack a similarly focused space at home.

In an exciting development, Subedi announced that the library is set to relocate to a new, four-and-a-half-story state-of-the-art building next month. This new facility, designed to be disabled-friendly, is expected to accommodate around 2,000 students. The move is anticipated to further enhance the learning experience for the university’s student body.
