UML Secretary Bhattarai’s Vehicle Vandalized in Taplejung

CPN-UML Secretary Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai’s vehicle was attacked and vandalized by activists during his return journey from Taplejung to Kathmandu. The incident took place following a series of protests against Secretary Bhattarai’s presence in Taplejung, where he encountered demonstrators advocating for a name-change of Koshi province.

The turmoil began when Secretary Bhattarai was shown a black flag near his residence in Taplejung by a group of protestors pushing for the province’s name to be changed from ‘Koshi’ to ‘Kirat.’ The activists, fervently supporting an alternate identity, had been vocal about their demand throughout the visit.

As tensions escalated, the situation took a violent turn with the activists resorting to vandalizing Secretary Bhattarai’s vehicle. The protestors, agitated and determined in their cause, raised vocal protests against the UML Secretary, demanding the immediate name-change of the province.

The demonstration was fueled by a strong sentiment for the adoption of the name ‘Kirat’ for the province, and the activists were unrelenting in their demand for the revocation of the current ‘Koshi’ designation. Secretary Bhattarai had visited his home district to participate in a program organized by the UML, but the visit took an unexpected and confrontational turn.

Authorities are now investigating the incident, and concerns about the growing tensions surrounding the province’s name-change issue are on the rise.
