US Senator Hollen Meets UML’s Chairman Oli

United States Senator Chris Van Hollen held a crucial meeting with CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Sunday. The meeting took place at the UML parliamentary party office at Singha Durbar and covered a range of important topics.

According to Subash Nembang, the deputy leader of the UML parliamentary party, Senator Hollen and Chairman Oli engaged in discussions aimed at promoting bilateral interests between the United States and Nepal. One of the key topics on the agenda was the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact, which has recently entered into force. Hollen expressed his delight that the MCC Compact had been ratified by Nepal’s Parliament and was now being implemented, marking a significant milestone in the bilateral relationship.

Senator Hollen emphasized the importance of visits at the lawmaker level in strengthening the ties between Nepal and the United States. He also inquired about the status of the Peace Process in Nepal.

In response, Chairman Oli conveyed that they had played a crucial role in both the ratification and implementation of the MCC Compact. He informed Senator Hollen that legislation was currently being formulated to conclude the Peace Process in Nepal.

Chairman Oli further stated that the Peace Process would be concluded by enacting victim-friendly laws that align with universal norms of human rights and international law.

The meeting was attended by prominent leaders, including Deputy General Secretary Bishnu Rimal from the UML, as well as officials from the US Embassy, underscoring the importance of the discussions held between Senator Hollen and Chairman Oli for the future of US-Nepal relations.
