Veteran Actor CP Lohani Passes Away at 86
The Nepali film industry mourns the loss of one of its venerable actors, Chidambaram Prasad Lohani, popularly known as CP Lohani, who passed away on Monday in Kathmandu at the age of 86.
Lohani succumbed to a respiratory illness at Annapurna Neuro Hospital on Monday afternoon, where he was under medical care. His passing was confirmed by Dr. Nishchal Nath Pandey, a relative and a foreign affairs expert.
Born into the cinematic landscape of Nepal, Lohani rose to fame with significant contributions to Nepali cinema. He is notably remembered for his role in ‘Maitighar’ (1966), the first Nepali film produced by the private sector. It was during the shooting of this film that he met his future wife, the renowned Bollywood actress Mala Sinha. The couple’s love story captured the hearts of many and they married the same year.
Lohani’s life is celebrated by his wife, Mala Sinha, and daughter, Pratibha Sinha, both of whom survive him.
The Nepal Film Artist Association announced that Lohani’s last rites will be performed at the Aryghat cremation grounds. The film community and fans alike are expected to gather to pay their respects to the departed soul who left a lasting mark on Nepali and Indian cinema.
