52 Candidates File Nominations for 19 NA Seats

In a significant development today, a total of 52 candidates officially filed their nomination papers for the upcoming National Assembly seat elections scheduled to take place on January 25. The nominations span various categories, reflecting a diverse range of candidates from different backgrounds and communities.

Nomination papers were submitted at the respective election offices across the seven provinces, marking a crucial step in the electoral process. The Election Commission reported that among the 52 candidates, 17 filed nominations under the women’s category, six under the Dalit category, eight representing persons with disabilities or minority communities, and 21 under various other groups.

Shaligram Sharma Paudyal, the spokesperson for the Election Commission, disclosed that the nomination papers were registered at the Election Officer’s office in all seven provinces between 10 am and 3 pm on the specified day.

The distribution of nominations across provinces is as follows: Koshi and Madhes provinces saw five candidates each, Bagmati had 15 candidates, Gandaki had eight, Lumbini had seven, while Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces each had six candidates filing nominations.

Following the nominations, the Election Commission outlined the next steps in the electoral process. According to the election calendar released by the EC, January 9 is the designated day for registering complaints against the candidates. Subsequently, the nomination papers and any received complaints will undergo review, with the list of candidates set to be published on January 10 and 11.

Candidates will have the opportunity to withdraw their names from the electoral race on January 12, leading to the final list of candidates being published. On January 13, election symbols will be distributed to the confirmed candidates, marking a crucial phase as the nation moves closer to the National Assembly elections on January 25.

The Election Commission encourages public participation and vigilance in reporting any concerns or complaints, ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process leading up to the National Assembly elections.
